This program is designed to teach effective techniques for defensive use with minimal injury to the subject. This system uses collapsible or straight batons with pressure points so excessive force is not required. The baton is extremely important in that it can be used when your empty hand techniques are inadequate, yet the situation does not warrant lethal force.

The baton is not a substitute for Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) or other deterrent sprays (which may not be allowed in your area) and vice versa. Each has their own special function. However, some administrations may be hesitant issuing batons even though the officer may need them. This hesitancy may be as a result of the officer’s attitude towards batons ~ they may wonder how hard is it to swing a baton, or if they are within their rights to use one. These concerns will be eliminated with the course’s emphasis on the legalities of when and where batons can be used.
